What you can do after a car accident

On Behalf of | Aug 2, 2022 | Car Accidents

You might be confused about what you should do and what to report after being involved in a car accident in Tennessee. The following are a few steps that you can take whether you’ve been in a serious accident or a fender bender.

Injuries

As soon as it’s safe to do so, determine if there are any injuries. If you see any significant bleeding or if anyone is complaining about being in pain, then it would be beneficial for them to be taken to a hospital. Even if there are no apparent injuries, it’s a good idea to stay on the scene of auto accidents until a police officer arrives and clears you to leave so that you don’t get a ticket for leaving.

Information

Take as many pictures as possible so that you provide them to your insurance company. After an auto accident, a police officer will usually make a report with the basic information provided by both drivers. However, you can also exchange information with the other driver so that you have their insurance and contact information. Make notes about the make and model of the other vehicle and the tag information in the event that the other person doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t make a report.

Insurance

Once you’ve been examined by a doctor for any injuries that you have and you’ve received all of the information that you can from the scene of the accident, you can make a report to your insurance company. Some can help you file a claim so that you can get your vehicle repaired and to ensure that the correct driver is held liable.

While no one necessarily wants to be involved in an accident, following these steps might help in dealing with insurance claims as well as any litigation that results.
