Child custody matters often make for very heated discussions between two parents. When you aren’t in a relationship with your child’s other parent, you might find that you don’t want to deal with him or her. Unfortunately, you will probably still have to work together to come to terms with some of the decisions that must be made regarding the child.
As you can imagine, contentious matters can lead to arguments. There comes a time when you might need to walk away from the discussion. It is important for you to take the time that you need when you have to walk away.
One thing that you have to remember is that all forms of communication aren’t equal. You can hear a person’s voice inflection if you are having a verbal conversation. This inflection isn’t present in emails, texts or other written messages. Without being able to hear the person speak, it is easy to misunderstand the meaning behind the message.
Whether you are the person who is sending the message or the person receiving it, you need to be cautious. If there is a chance that the message might be misunderstood, you need to take a few moments to evaluate what is being said. If there is a misunderstanding, take the time to get an understanding before you react negatively.
In all things related to child custody, it is usually better if you take a few moments to ensure you are composed. Contentious matters might require you to walk away for a bit, but if you do this, make sure that you let your ex know in a respectful manner. This might help you avoid blow-ups in the child custody case.
