Help your kids share vacation memories

On Behalf of | Feb 8, 2019 | Child Custody

As the warmer months begin their approach, it is time for parents who share children to start thinking about what is going to happen with vacations this year. While many people will focus on the actual vacation plans, there is something else you need to think about if you aren’t with your child’s other parent. That is how your children will share their memories with their other parent.

The memories the children make on vacation are likely ones that they will want to talk to their other parent about. There are several ways that you might be able to make this possible. First, make sure that there are communication options present often while you are gone. Something as simple as a quick video chat or phone call might be a good idea.

Second, consider finding meaning souvenirs while you are on vacation. The children can share these when they get home. In some cases, buying a small item for the child to give to the other parent might be a good idea.

Third, take pictures. But, be careful not to let the desire to capture things on film mean that you miss out on the experiences that are right before you.

It is a good idea to have some terms regarding vacation put into the child custody agreement. This ensures that you and your ex are on the same page about these matters. You might need to have something put into the agreement that ensures the children can talk to the nonpresent parent while enjoying vacation with their other parent.
